G.I. Joe - Pursuit of Cobra - Duke Wave 3
If eBay is any guide, and what a sad state of affairs we've reached for it to be the bellweather, my small town has fallen pretty far behind in terms of the latest releases in the G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra line. This line is sort of sad - though I guess that sums up a lot of Hasbro's efforts lately. I think that the figures are still really well done, and by and large the fan community still digs them, but it has gone from being sort of light weight and exclusive feeling, to peg warming just like so many other recent lines. Once rare figures like Recondo are staring out from the shelves - they ain't got time to bleed but they have time to collect dust at Target it seems. Well, we all know that it's more the fault of the retailers, who make the final call on how much of each release they order, than the fault of Hasbro who is just shipping what they are told to ship. As a result of the clogged product, we see the classic effect of later waves being delayed, and the subsequent fear is that the still later waves will be outright canceled. eBay tells us, though, that much of the country is starting to find wave 4, so it was with some relief that Target finally scared up a few cases of wave 3 for us poor isolated souls. As such, 3 out of 4 figures from this apparently scarce wave have joined the Preserve (surprise surprise that all the Cobra Shock Trooper were already gone), so let's have a look at one of them. Yes, it's another Duke - but I do admit that the faded blue paint wash they achieved on his armor and gear is pretty neat. They also have mercifully left behind the 'actor likeness' head from the movie, and are back to a far superior sculpt of their own. He comes loaded down with weapons and gear, making that $6.99 price tag a little more reasonable, and at least it's less than the movie line figures of 2009! So - speaking of movie lines - Toy Fair is only a few short weeks away, which is hard to believe! I do have to wonder if it's too early for Hasbro to show off any of the upcoming movie #2 product...you have to imagine that it's at least under development, and probably much further along than that. Well - we can all be collectively excited for the coming reveals. I am also going to be shooting video this year, so hopefully that's a fun new thing to watch for the folks at home!
