Analog TV Finally Succombs to Digital
Certainly a huge part of childhood was the consumption of massive amounts of TV. In later years, probably due to college, I was somewhat weened from that dependency and instead consumed more 'on demand' content, which in 1997 meant movies...netflix what? Now days, I'm still more likely to watch a fine Don 'the dragon' movie than I am to tune into the latest episode of....hmm, can't even think of anything other than news shows (yes, Colbert counts as that)! However, it is with a distinct note of sadness that I want to recognize the historic import of today and tomorrow with respect to the noble TV. CNN.com tells us that today, Friday June 12th, TV stations nationwide are shutting down their analog broadcast signals, and making the final cut-over to digital. By 12:01 am Saturday all of the analog transmitters must be offline! Take a moment to remember your kind, static-y TVs of yesteryear, and make sure to save one or two for when we have to revert in 2010!
