The lion-force, and the red-headed-stepchild Voltron figures
|
|
Voltron served as my introduction, at a very young age, to the distinctive style of 70s/early 80s Japanese animation. I certainly
had no idea what that was at the time (well, still don't I suspect) but realized it was something different. I think the show
is still fabulous to watch, even in it's low-budget glory of repeated footage, choppy motion and mis-colorings. At least it
wasn't all crapped out of a computer (well, same is true for most anything we talk about here on the Preserve) so that
makes me like it a little immediately.
There were a surprisingly number of Voltron related items that came out in a period of several years - an almost absurd
string of lion-force figures in all different sizes, styles and motorizations. There were tie-ins, boot-legs, all the
earmarks of a successful line. I certainly try to keep my efforts focused, but if anything turns up in the Archives, you'll
be the first to know.
