2001: A Space Odyssey, by Arthur C. Clarke
Basically a novelization of the screenplay that Kubrick and Clarke wrote together, however
written concurrently so hard to say, this treatment felt somehow less awe inspiring and
mind bending than the excellent movie. I appreciate it's place in the history of
space faring tales, but it has definitely been surpassed many times over. The last
serveral short chapters, which start to deal with the 'star child' material seem to come
out of left field for sure, and feel tacked onto the rest of the more conventional story
to add some element of the fantastic, or perhaps the grand mystery of space. More likely
a late-night binge session with Kubrick leading to those ideas.
