Song of Solomon, by Toni Morrison
A beautifully written book. Sharply defined characters, well wrought locations
and family drama that you can feel and associate with. Milkman isn’t exactly a
bad guy, but he just hasn’t done much that’s good, for himself, for others, for his family.
The novel falls into two distinct parts - and the second half adventure road trip
is a massive departure from the nearly slice-of-life scenario we get in part 1.
I found myself describing this novel as not all that grim, even containing a fair
amount of humor. Well, rest assured that by the time you reach the end, the final
chapter will turn that smile upside down.
(I know there are a lot of images here. I accidentally took a burst shot but
sort of like the flip-book result so left them. Also, in case they are important)
