Shadow of Obsession - by Rebecca Neason
I was immediately grabbed by the opening pages of this book, and read eagerly as
the adventure and intrigue unfolded with good old Duncan MacLeod. Then, at about
the 1/3 mark, we dropped back into an historical romance drama taking place during the
Visigoth invasion of Rome around 400AD. While this was interesting from that historical
perspective, I admit to finding the romance angle ponderous and dull, but that's a failing
of mine no doubt.
However, that said, the book redeemed itself in the final chapters with a return to modern
times and to Duncan, and the pulling together of threads that were perhaps too carefully woven
in the middle third of the read did end up being rewarding. I'm looking forward to reading other
entries in the Highlander series, and should really catch up on my viewing of the show to add some
additional context to the events!
