Ready Player One - by Ernest Cline
Part of me wants to condemn this book for the author having confused the notions of narrative and
footnote. The other part of me, and thankfully the majority share, found it to be
fast paced, exciting, page turning, and a fun ride.
I was wondering how they would get 360 pages out of a string of 1980s pop culture references, and
was answered with a story that was surprisingly gritty and compelling. One could nitpick from
a number of angles without very much effort, but I'm impressed with the author's ability to write
prose that keeps the pages turning. Granted, maybe it is due to my familiarity with the material, and
it is people like me who were his undoubted target audience, and given how old we all are now, it's a
fine plan to follow in order to sell a heck of a lot of books.
