Women of Horror Q&A
|
|
|
|
The 'Women of Horror' panel was super cool, as it featured Heather Langenkamp, Jobeth Williams and Amanda Plummer. This was,
if I am not mistaken, Jobeth William's first con ever, which is hard to believe! I gotta say, and the Uncle really should
be writing this piece, that Heather Langenkamp was fantastically awesome. She still looks great, and she seemed really
down to earth and very intelligent. It was also fun to hear her high praise of good old Robert Englund - traits that we
will hopefully have a chance to verify during Monster Mania 11 this August 2008!
Amusingly, Amanda Plummer seemed pretty out of it during the panel. I mean - she seemed sweet and polite, but sort of like
she was enjoying some methods by which she could be relaxed during her time at the show. I think one of the best moments
was when the ladies were asked the question 'what really scares you'. Heather answered that she's afraid to be in a lonely parking
lot, late at night, walking to her car. This is certainly a fear or disquiet I've heard from others before, and it's understandable.
In an effort to help, right in the middle of the panel, Amanda starts giving her advice about walking through the puddles and
looking up at the stars, and if you concentrate you can achieve some higher level of awareness...it was pretty amazing. Heather,
to her credit, took all this in and thanked Amanda for the sound advice, assuring her that she'd try it out. Great stuff.
Also memorable was Jobeth discussing the 'curse' associated with the Poltergeist movies. At first she dismissed it, saying
that under the stressful conditions that those movies were made, people were bound to get injured or sick. Then she started
rattling off a list - a long list - of people who had died. We were astonished, and need to conduct further research, it
sure sounded like no joke!
The ladies really delivered the goods, and I'm just saddened that we didn't have a chance to meet them at their signing tables.
Hopefully they can set up some sort of Nightmare Reunion for con #11, and maybe we'll have another chance with Heather (especially
since the Uncle totally blew his chance at this con to even say hello!).
Also - we thought that we were being clever, and would segue from this panel right into the Bruce Campbell panel that immediately
followed, not having to fight for a seat as a result. Well, seems everyone else had the same idea (though hopefully most
were there to hear the actresses speak as it was well worth it) so by the time we arrived for their panel (early) it was standing
room only against the back wall! Well, at least we had something to lean on.
